Main Water Service Line Replacement in the Outaouais
We replace the interior portion of the main water service line, from the street valve or the meter to your indoor plumbing. We do not coordinate the water shut-off with the City.
What we do
We work inside the building on the water line that serves your house, plex or business.
- Replacement of the interior water service pipe
- Replacement of the main shut-off valve
- Water meter connection and piping adaptation
- Bringing the interior connection up to code
- Leak testing and pressure verification
Why replace the interior water service line
An old pipe can reduce pressure, discolour the water or eventually leak. A seized or defective main shut-off valve makes it impossible to cut the water quickly in an emergency. Replacing the interior portion solves these problems and prepares the connection to a new municipal line.
Signs it is time to act
Several symptoms indicate that the interior portion of the water service line should be replaced or brought up to code.
- Drop in water pressure throughout the house
- Brownish or rusty water first thing in the morning
- Visible lead or galvanized steel pipe in the basement
- Main shut-off valve that no longer closes completely
- Leak at the meter or at the interior connection
How the visit works
We first inspect the service entry in the basement: pipe material, valve condition, whether a meter is present and where, and how much working space there is. We then confirm the section to be replaced and the materials required, and set a date around the appointment you have obtained from the City to close the street valve.
On the day of the work, once the water is off, we remove the targeted section, install the new pipe and valve, redo the connections to your indoor plumbing and to the meter, then bring the water back gradually while purging the air.
What affects the scope of the work
The length of the section to replace, the required diameter, the existing material (lead, galvanized steel, copper), how crowded the mechanical room is and where the meter sits all determine the duration. A finished ceiling or storage installed in front of the service entry adds clearing time.
Coordination with the City and exterior excavation
Any work on the water service line requires the municipality to close the street valve. You must contact the City yourself to schedule a joint appointment with them and with us so the valve can be replaced.
Excavation on the street side, from the municipal line to the foundation, is not part of our scope of work.
When it counts as an emergency
An active leak on the service line, or a main valve that cannot be closed, are emergencies, because they make it impossible to isolate the building when something breaks. An old but still watertight pipe can be replaced as planned work.
After the work
We check the pressure, verify every joint for tightness, flush the lines and show you the new main shut-off valve and how to operate it. The invoice details the section replaced and the workmanship warranty.
