Backwater Valve Installation in the Outaouais
A backwater valve keeps sewage from backing up into your basement during heavy rain or when the municipal system is overloaded. Our licensed plumbers install, replace and maintain them.
Our services
We assess your drainage system and recommend the type of valve best suited to your building.
- Backwater valve installation on the main drain or a floor drain
- Replacement of defective valves
- Periodic valve inspection and cleaning
- Piping adaptation and code compliance
- Residential, commercial and multi-unit work
Why install one
A sewer backup causes expensive damage that is difficult to clean up. Several Outaouais municipalities require a backwater valve and some insurers ask for one to cover basement water damage. Subsidy programs sometimes exist: check with your municipality.
How the work is done
We first locate the main drain and the point where the valve has to sit in order to protect every basement fixture. When the drain is buried, that means cutting a section of the concrete slab, exposing the pipe, setting the valve in its access housing, redoing the connections, then backfilling and finishing the concrete.
Replacing an existing valve is much shorter: we open the access cover, remove the mechanism, clean the seat, fit the new part and test that it closes properly.
What affects the scope of the work
Drain depth, slab thickness, pipe material, the presence of a sump and the available working space all determine how long the job takes. An existing access point cuts the work considerably; a new under-slab installation usually takes a full day plus concrete curing time.
When it counts as an emergency
A backup in progress is an emergency: stop using water, avoid contact with the wastewater and call us. A valve found not closing fully during an inspection should be corrected quickly, but can usually be scheduled before the next heavy rain.
Recommended maintenance
A valve must stay clean and free of debris in order to close properly. We recommend an annual inspection, especially before the spring thaw and the storm season.
After installation, we show you where the access cover is and how to visually check the mechanism between services.
